stuff...

hi
new entry, so Laura can stop bugging me every time she talks to me.

two or three things:
1. I am a horrible, horrible blogger.

this is largely due to the fact that my life is so completely uninteresting to me, that i hardly think it fair to inflict the mind-numbing details of it on the two of you that read this. (hi mom, thanks for checking this every day!)

i work at subway... when i am not at work i am probably at church or hanging out with my girlfriend. thats pretty much it.

i did just discover that i have nearly 200 DVDs, another confirmation that i am a gigantic loser.

2. I am a horrible, horrible friend.

this is largely due to the fact that i have a new girlfriend, and i therefore spend most of my time with her, rather than hanging out with derek and cody (a clear violation of the "bros before hos" policy), or returning calls or emails from friends i made over the summer(sorry kristin).

3. Doug: i will be coming up to denver next fall... it turns out working at subway doesnt quite give me enough money to pay for CCU quite yet. I think i will be coming up on the 13th though, and staying in dever all day the 14th before i go to MxPx Relient K and Rufio... we should get together, cause i love you (in a completely nonsexual kind of way).

Picasa

Hey everyone... (both of you)

I just got this groovy thing called Picasa, its a software that lets you do all kinds of fun things with any digital pictures you have.

It finds, organizes and displays all your pictures, and then it lets you do some really cool things with them.
the best part is its free, and it synchs up with Blogger and GMail automatically.

I am adding a photo album of some pictures that i have messed with in Picasa... Enjoy!

DRM

First post in so freakin long... oh well

Went with the Kids from Trinity Lutheran up to the Denver Rescue Mission last night. We helped out at a place called The Crossing, which i gather is a sort of recovery/transitional facility for homeless people. It is in an old hotel in a rather industrial neighborhood in Denver. The kids did an awesome job deep-cleaning the kitchen for an upcoming inspection.

The Kitchen at the Crossing is run by about 3 guys that prepare 3 meals a day for about 100-115 residents. The head chef said he puts in about 80-90 hours a week. All their food is donated from local stores and restaurants, and they have regular volunteers that come help with serving and cleanup.

The kids also served the meal and bused tables for about an hour.

After that we decided to bust downtown and go the Scum of the Earth Church, and catch a service there.
Scum is a church for "the left out and the right brained" (to quote their founding pastor) that caters to young adults and teenagers that are not welcome or not comfortable at other, more traditional churches.

1Co 4:11-13  To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and buffeted and homeless, and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we entreat. We have become, and are still, like the scum of the earth, the refuse of all things.

The attendees run the gamut from homeless to upper class, and from goth to business. There were kids with mohawks, piercings, chains, and tatoos. We need to strive to be the kind of people that will welcome those that are "Left out" in "proper society." Jesus even says that how we treat the socially outcast is how we treat Him!
Mat 25:31-40 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.  Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.'  Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'

 Finally:

Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

Quotes for today

I am reading John Piper's A Godward Life right now... and I picked up some cool quotes I wanted to put up here.

"We are halfhearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like and ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot understand what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased." -- C. S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory

"I am a creature of a day. I am a spirit come from God, and returning to God. I want to know one thing: the way to heaven. God himself has condescended to teach me the way. He has written it down in a book. Oh, give me that book!" --John Wesley

"God is most glorified in me when I am most satisfied in Him." --John Piper

Jr MADness

so... a week of hiking around, getting 3-4 hours of sleep, and yelling at middle schoolers really takes it out of you...

Three quarters of Darkness Fails got to spend a week leading worship at a Jr High Music, Art and Drama camp June 26th - July 2nd, it was a good time. Except I shredded  my voice from singing high and loud for about 2 hours a day in really dry air. Oh well.

July 16th we are playing a short show at Praise in the Park, at Pioneer Park in Sterling, CO... we are probably going to debut a couple of new songs there...
